PROGRAM SALES

YAHOO!

Are you ready for our BIGGEST fundraiser of the year?

As in years past, The Friends of the Young Canadians will be selling the 2018 Stampede Souvenir Programs to the guests attending the Calgary Stampede. This is a great opportunity to support your YCs, the Calgary Stampede, and meet other YC parents.

Each YC family is required to volunteer for a minimum of FOUR shifts
per YC student registered in the program.

There are over 600 volunteer shifts available – feel free to sign up for as many as you like! For example, if a mom and dad of one YC student each works a shift on the same night, this will count as two shifts. Add in a couple of friends and you can complete your commitment in one day. In previous years, some of our volunteers have had so much fun that they want to do this more than once (youu also get to see the show). Please make sure that you and anyone you sign up will be available that day, as it is difficult for us to fill shifts at the last minute.

Where to meet

The program manager or delegate will meet all of the volunteers at the South Gate (just outside the gate beside the  Erlton train station) at the times designated above. You’ll be met by one of the program sales managers or their designate at the left side of the south entrance near the ‘Accreditation Entry’. Look for someone with a program sales paddle. If you are not on the list, you will not be allowed into the park.

Please arrive on time; this is how you’ll get into the park. If you are late, be prepared to wait until can send someone to let you in.

Volunteers will only be given a 15-minute window before the person with the passes returns to the sales office.

If you are going to be late please be courteous and send the Program Sales Manager a text – check the table below to see who is managing your shift. Contact them via text to update them on your status. You will need to go through security with your bag.

Frequently-Asked Questions

How old do you have to be to volunteer?

You must be 16 years old to sell programs. This is a volunteer who will receive inventory and a float.

I have a child that wants to help but they are not 16. Can they sell with us?

Yes! We are looking for energetic sellers and if you are that person but under 16 years old, you can attend with your parents and help promote that you are selling programs. When the customers come to pay, just direct them to your parents who will handle the money exchange.

If I volunteer for a rodeo shift, can I still come back and watch the show that night?

Yes! When leaving the grounds after the rodeo shift, make sure you get a stamp for re-entry on to the park later that day. To gain re-entry into the Grandstand, one of the program managers (or delegate) will meet you at the north gate just outside “Junior Land” (see the red star on the map). We meet returning volunteers at 6:45 to get you into the Grandstand. You may leave the Grandstand and return at 9:55 but make sure to get a hand stamp for re-entry.

Can we store our bags during the day and use the program sales office as a ‘base’ while we are at the park but not working until the chuckwagon shift?

No. Our returning parents can tell you, the space we have to run this fundraiser is very limited. We ask that YCs and families attending early put their bags in their dressing rooms or only bring items that you can carry with you all day. We will have a place for purses and bags available during your shift.

If it’s not time for the show, can we wait in the program sales office after our shift?

No. Due to the limited space, the program sales office can be quite hectic. Our head cashiers would prefer to cash out with the office closed at the end of the shift.

I want to sell at my favorite booth. Can you set that up in advance?

Yes, the new Program Sales sign-up form allows you to select your favourite booth when you sign up.  However, booth space is limited and is on a first come first serve basis.  Once they have been filled they are no longer available. So make sure you sign up as soon as you can.

We signed up as a group. Can we be together?

Yes, you can sign up to four (4) volunteers per shift but again this is on a first-come first-serve basis and spots will fill up quickly.

What if I need to use the washroom?

Please use the restroom before your shift. If you must excuse yourself during the shift and you are selling alone, please bring programs/money and apron to the office so we can look after it. If you are at a booth with someone, put everything inside the booth while you are away.

After I arrive to volunteer for my evening shift will I have time to eat?

Please eat before your shift and not during it. Since we are trying to sell as many programs as we can, we only have a few short hours to sell as much as possible.

There is a short time between signing in and our meeting when you should have time to get a snack. You can buy discount-priced salads, burgers, sandwiches etc. in the grandstand staff room before your shift starts.  You will need a volunteer pass, so talk to the Program Sales Manager on duty for a pass which needs to be returned to the sales office once you have gotten your food.

What if I get asked a question that I don’t know the answer to?

If a visitor has a lot of questions, please politely refer them to the ushers who will be wearing red shirts and white hats.

Program Sales General Information

  • The Souvenir Programs are $10 – they come with a day sheet stuffed in the front cover. Please do not separate the day sheets from the programs.
  • We now sell day sheets alone for $3.
  • Each seller will receive a $100 float.
  • We accept Canadian funds – nothing larger than a $50 bill and US funds at PAR but nothing larger than a $20 bill.
  • This Rodeo Program voucher can be redeemed for a Rodeo Program or an Evening Show Program.
  • Often customers buying a program will have more than one voucher that they won’t be using. It is helpful to ask for the extra vouchers as it all counts towards our fundraiser.
  • Since we are a fundraiser, we do not accept Stampede Bucks – this year they are red and look like the one at right.
  • Do not leave programs unattended. Visitors may think that a stack of programs on your booth are free for the taking.

The Friends of The Young Canadians
is a non-profit organization that raises funds for the Young Canadians School of Performing Arts. Funds are used to support many initiatives planned for this year, including boot camp, performance workshops, guest instructors, specialty training and other events to benefit and enhance the members’ experience.
